work within the system to disrupt the system

in this episode we discuss:

  • Sara’s journey to becoming an entrepreneur and coach for creative and female led businesses

  • the language of war that we use every day in business and how that doesn’t resonate with many women or creatives

  • what is a business owner??

  • reconciling the purity of art and creating with earning money

  • unlearning as well as learning what a business owner is

  • understanding that as business owners, we can create the environment we want to work in and it doesn’t have to fit the established narrative

  • working within a capitalist and patriarchal system intentionally and knowingly to change those systems through disruption

  • recognizing that we’re the boss and we can make the rules/decisions

  • using simple systems to make it easier to run a business and still be able to put most of your attention towards creating

  • systems give you freedom

    • make a 90 day plan and refer back to it regularly

    • get your money in order - use a spreadsheet, software, a bookkeeper - whatever works and review those numbers

    • have a system to build your email list as your marketing cornerstone

  • systems give you freedom

  • don’t get so wrapped up in the systems that you forget to create!

  • it’s important to be kind and gentle with yourself but.. it’s also important to be firm with ourselves. How do you do that?

  • having a support network for your business

  • recognizing the patriarchy we are surrounded by and working to dismantle that by supporting other women, collaborating with other women and recognizing the abundance available to women when we support one another
