pr pros

information for PR professionals

If you are a PR professional pitching your client for a guest spot on the show there’s a few things you need to know before emailing or pitching us!

  • We accept a very limited number of guest pitches

  • For a number of reasons, we prefer having potential guests pitch us directly

If pitching us directly is simply not possible for your client then read on - but please note that due to the volume of pitches we receive, we’re unable to respond to pitches that are vague or that don’t meet the needs or expectations of the creatives this podcast serves.

what we are looking for:

Your client should be one of the following:

  • an artist: painter, musician, actor, potter, fibre artist etc.

  • a story teller: writers, poets, filmmakers, copywriters, bloggers or YouTubers

  • a musician and/or a songwriter

  • a creative services provider: designer (graphic, fashion, jewellery etc), makeup artist, photographer, event designer, chef or culinary artist, etc

  • somebody who actively works with, or provides services to, independent artists*** and creatives. These should be their core clients.

Your client should be self-employed.

Your client must be a Canadian citizen or reside in Canada.

Your client must identify as a woman.

*** we cannot stress enough that our listeners are independent, self-employed creatives and artists looking to learn from other independent, self-employed creatives - or those who understand and serve their needs on a daily basis.

what we are not looking for:

Currently we are not looking for the following:

  • pitches that do not put our audience’s needs first

  • pitches that focus on executive style coaching, masterminds, courses or programs that are not directly related to the creative arts

  • coaches or service providers with no or limited backgrounds in the creative arts - if your client is a coach or service provider please ensure your pitch outlines their experience as a self-employed working creative or an expert in an industry that serves independent creatives (such as publishing or art licensing, etc)

  • we do not do book or film reviews on the show - we can talk about your client’s latest project, but our audience is more interested how to be a successful, well-balanced, independent artist, creative or maker. They want to hear about the lessons your client has learned in their journey as a self-employed, independent creative.

Show Basics:

  • currently, we release a new public episode every other Monday during the season

  • we batch record every 2-3 months - this means we record well in advance of when an episode will potentially air

Who Our Audience Is

Our audience spans the globe but over 60% are Canadian. They own and run their creative businesses full time or they are creating as a side business and are looking to move to full time. Some are simply curious about what’s involved in running a creative business and trying to figure out if it’s the path for them.

A few other things about our listeners you might like to know before making your pitch:

  • they are physically creating their work - they’re artists, makers, photographers, writers, videographers, musicians, designers, crafters

  • many have escaped the corporate world (or are hoping to) and have no interest in that landscape - it’s VERY important your pitch considers this

  • most work from home or may have an off site studio space

  • most do not have employees and those that do, have small teams of 1-5 people (most of whom may be contractors, VAs or freelancers)

We Speak Canadian

We speak Canadian on the podcast. By that we mean that we reference Canadian dollars, Canadian business structures, Canadian tax laws, Canadian copyright, Canadian legal and employment rules, etc.

We make an effort to broaden these topics where we can for our international listeners but this podcast is a primarily a resource for Canadian business owners.

Please Note

The And She Looked Up Podcast is seasonal. New seasons start every September and run through June. No new public episodes are released during our season break from July to Labour Day Weekend.

If you think you might be a good fit and you have a great idea that we haven’t covered on the podcast in the last six months, fill out the form below and include your pitch (topic, points to cover, links to your website and social media) in the message section. If you have a media kit, you can forward it to andshelookedup@gmail.com.

Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!
